Marvel Legends Review
The Marvel Cinematic Universe, MCU for short, is an ever-growing franchise that is loved by many. They are known for their complex storylines and their lovable characters that are all intertwined in one way or another. As the franchise continues to grow, more fans also start to get interested in the MCU as a whole. To help guide these new fans, Disney+ created Marvel Studios Legends. The goal of this collection is to “celebrate the heroes and villains of the highly anticipated Disney shows.” Basically these shorts delve into a specific character that has an upcoming release of a new series, and recap everything the character has been through and done in the past movies.
The first short is on Wanda Maximoff, as the first two episodes of WandaVision was released on Friday, January 15. Just about every scene that held importance to her character was included, as a way to quickly showcase her story without muddying it up with all the distractions of other plotlines. The next short was on Vision, who makes up the other half of the upcoming WandaVision series. His short was very similar to Wanda’s in that it just showed the character’s important moments. Also many of the scenes shown in each short were the same for these two characters. The difference being the scenes were from the other’s perspective since these two characters and their storylines are already so intertwined.
I liked the shorts; they were quick and easy to watch, and they really did the job of recapping all of the characters’ important moments. However, I knew nothing about them going into it, so I was expecting some sort of new content. After watching and reading the description I was less disappointed and more appreciative. A common complaint of the MCU is that there is so much content to watch to stay caught-up for the new projects that get released. What Legends does is get rid of this problem by conveniently condensing all a character’s scenes into one easily accessible place. The two shorts on Wanda and Vision are a great refresher to watch before you watch WandaVision without spending hours watching different movies and getting stuck in the middle of all the other story lines. Currently there are only the two shorts mentioned, but more are scheduled to be released as the next series in line (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) gets closer to its release date.
Overall, I really recommend Marvel Studios’ Legends to anyone planning on watching any of the new MCU series on Disney+. New fans, casual watchers, and dedicated fans alike can all get something out of this new collection of shorts.
