IdentityV: A Scary Fun Survival Game

Updated: Apr 22

As someone who grew up not being able to handle a lot of horror genre video games, “Identity V” has to be one of my favorites. It was initially released April 2, 2018, by NetEase Inc under the genres of role playing and survival horror. A game where you either play as a survivor or a hunter, the survivors, the player, plus three other online players, have to run around avoiding the hunter all while finding and decoding ciphers around the map. On the other hand, the hunter runs around the map trying to stop the survivors from winning. The way this game is set up may sound familiar. That is because IdentityV is heavily inspired by the game “Dead by Daylight'', though there are differences. Which is the best part, like I said before I wasn't able to handle a lot of horror games; especially the ones with a lot of blood. This game is the less violent version of Dead by Daylight.though the gore may be taken out, this game makes up for it in suspense and shock. My favorite part of this game is the aesthetic, meaning the character and map designs. The designs of the characters for the survivor team have a simple yet amazing design based on ragdolls. While for the hunter team, their characters are all semi-realistic style, each one creepier than the next; adding to the creepy atmosphere of the game. There are multiple unique characters you can pick from and multiple different outfits you could collect. The maps on the other hand are extremely detailed, each one very different from the other. At times it almost seems like they could all have a different story, which makes the game much more fun to play. One of the only downfalls to this game is when you first download it, it takes awhile to download everything and takes an hour or more to finish the tutorial before you can add friends. It takes around 30 to 45 minutes to play the game yourself. Although, it’s not like other tutorials where you have to stop and read, this tutorial puts you in fake games so you can learn how to play yourself while it asks you to do one task. So that’s a plus side to the long tutorial, otherwise, you are allowed to skip it; but I recommend doing it, it makes the game easier to play the first time. Overall, this game is recommended for ages 12 and up but it is the perfect game to play with friends. It’s a great mix of thrill, suspense, accuracy, competition, and fun! This is a 4 out of 5 game.
